November heralds the start of the Presidents Cup Golf Championships
in George. Golf tourists and locals will be descending on all the
Southern Cape courses for their own bit of fun during this prestigious
event. However if you are a golfer and a new spectacle wearer, you
might find the going quite tough and not so much fun. Disturbing
visual symptoms are often brought about by your spectacles.
If wearing bifocals, the reading segments should not be set too
high. This results in an out of focus ball as you line up on the
first tee. Ever experienced a missed putt because you misjudged
the slope of the green? Sure.. we all have! New spectacles can often
make an already difficult task even more challenging. The green
literally slopes the one way with spectacles on, and the other way
without them.
Presuming the prescription is correct, this can be due to a couple
of factors, namely, the curve of the frame (wrap-around effect)
or the angle at which the frame rests towards the cheeks. Another
possibility could be a change in lens material from glass to plastic
or vice-versa.
Sunglasses often reflect light off the back surface of the lens.
This is most annoying when you have your head down and are lining
up a putt. The answer here is an Anti-reflection coating that also
enhances the clarity of your vision.
There should be no 'optical' reason for a poor golf score. Your
optometrist should be able to advise what will work best for you.
Happy golfing!
Andy and Pam Muir practice in Knysna and Plettenberg Bay and with

with all their optical needs.
