Where 'Fat Susi' is concerned, 'Fat' describes the warm welcoming atmosphere of her highly successful coffee shop (certainly not Susi believe me!) which has become one of Knysna's most popular meeting places. Renowned for its excellent quality of food, the lunchtime vibe is a must, but then again any time of day is just as good.
Susi herself is a dynamic business lady who when presented with an opportunity does not let it pass her by. The result is now representation on both sides of Main Street Knysna with the recent acquisition of 'The Coffee Connection.' The operation is well branded, thus future changes will be subtle, with Susi initially intending to upgrade the quality of food and to increase the wholesale sales of coffee to new heights. Above all she will empower all staff with her own passion and positive attitude to running a successful coffee shop, as evident in her highly efficient Manageresses, Janine at 'Fat Susi's' and Marelise at 'The Coffee Connection'.
Susi puts the reasons for her success to the following, "Rather buy a well established business with years of goodwill and an existing client base than starting from scratch. Location is of paramount importance, as is creating a welcoming ambience with properly trained staff. Do your business planning over the whole year to balance out seasonal trade highs and lows, bearing in mind overheads are constant throughout."
Above all Susi pointed out,"Never forget that the locals are your core business and that tourists are the bonus, so don't get greedy and overprice your products ."
Well known for her outside event catering, Susi is now also extending 'The Coffee Connection's' business hours from 8am to late into the evening (Wednesdays to Saturdays only) to cater for movie-goers and those out
and about on the town. In addition an array of freshly prepared sandwiches will soon be on offer on a daily basis for those people on
the move.
