Prizes worth R75 000 are at stake in this year’s Pick'n' Pay Rotary
Knysna Cycle Tour, which forms part of the Graca Knysna Oyster Festival,
providing visitors and locals with lots of entertainment before and
after the races.
The tour will be an exhilarating two-day festival this year. By holding
the event over two the cyclists can now enter for both the mountain
bike and road racing events. There's even a discount for entering
both events and substantial prizes for participants who register the
best overall performances.
This is the event's 17th year and it is now the biggest and most popular
cycle tour in the Southern Cape. The mountain bike events take place
on Saturday, July 5th. It boasts a challenging new 78km route deep
into the Knysna Forest. The route is a combination of the best Knysna
has to offer and promises to be the highlight of the Mazda Drifter
Series.
All routes start on Waterfront Drive & the 78km ride proceeds up Salt
River, Gouna, Kom-se-Pad, a part of Petrus se Brand cycle route.
There is a section of single track on privately owned property and
the route passes through Steinhof private plantations and continues
to Concordia, over Safcol land before joining the northern part of
last year's 48km route back to the start/finish area.
It includes 20km of indigenous forest sections and follows parts of
the old railway 'coffee-pot' line between Diepwalle and Bracken Hill.
The route winds through fynbos, plantations, rivers and mountains.
Pick'nPay has come to the party with massive partnership. Various
co-sponsors such as Go-shopping Go-banking Energade, Mazda Drifter
and Knysna's very own Knysna Cycle Works have put in huge amounts
of effort to make this tour a success. |
