Just
20 minutes from the centre of Mossel Bay on the Garden Route,
Gondwana Game Reserve, a sizeable private reserve set on 6 500
hectares offers some 80 home buyers the opportunity to build and own
a bush home in a Big Five reserve.
Despite this great location and accessibility, the reserve is
secluded and remote giving a feeling of being in the middle of
nowhere. It shares the areas' renowned temperate climate, second in
the world to Hawaii's, and is Malaria free, offering prime year
round game viewing.
Home Owners have a freehold title of their one hectare property with
exclusive traversing rights and full access to the reserve. Each
home site is surrounded by ample undeveloped land allowing for
spectacular views of wildlife, nature, and the Outeniqua Mountains.
The homes will be discreetly situated within the reserve in large
areas, fenced for safety and freedom of movement, inhabited with
plains game.
The homes will be designed to best marry with their surroundings in
a natural bush architectural style with thatched roofs combined with
cape country elements. The homes will be built with safari type
living in mind, with large decks and folding windowed doors for
relaxed and spacious, open plan indoor and outdoor living.
All homes will be provided with road access, Eskom electricity,
aTelkom telephone line, and potable water. The home sites are priced
from R835 000 (excluding VAT) with no levy for the first two years.
Gondwana Game Reserve is marketed exclusively by Pam Golding
Properties Mossel Bay office, which has successfully marketed a
number of other local developments such as Pinnacle Point, Springer
Bay, and Pansy Cove, among others.
A beautiful main bush lodge will be built for entertainment and
gatherings, providing an ideal spot to meet for sundowners after an
afternoon game drive. To provide home owners with an income on their
holiday home investment, a rental pool is planned which will be
managed by a tourism entity. Properties will be graded and priced
accordingly.
Developer and conservationist, Mark Rutherfoord, has an ambition to
give others the opportunity of living in the bush among wildlife as
he has in the Kruger National Park and the Kalahari Desert.
Unbelievably enough, the Garden Route provided the ultimate setting
for his dream. “I find the property one of the most beautiful I've
seen in South Africa and from a management point of view the climate
and terrain are well suited for multiple species of game.” Mark is
eager to see Gondwana inhabited with all indigenous wildlife that
occurred in the Western Cape and plans to keep the land and animals
as untouched and open as possible. Co-developer Wendy Trees says,
“We believe in the potential of South Africa and feel privileged to
be able to create, conserve and sustain something so rare.”
The reserve will be home to lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, white
rhinoceros, eland, Cape Mountain Zebra, red hartebeest, bontebok,
springbok, kudu, etc.
Gondwana has a unique combination of Fynbos and grass plains. Fynbos,
the primary vegetation on the reserve, is endemic to the Western
Cape region and exists nowhere else in the world, drawing unique
birdlife and mammals. An abundance of Protea and other wildflowers
provide year round enjoyment and colour. There are gorgeous deep
valleys, ravines, hills, mountains and open plain areas, providing
excellent terrain for driving and guided walking safaris. Numerous
fountains, streams and dams allow for ideal settings for viewing
hides. The Outeniqua and Langeberg Mountain Ranges overlook the
reserve from the North, East, and West providing spectacular
backdrops for your wildlife photography and sunset views. The Indian
Ocean can also be seen from certain elevated areas on the reserve.
Keith Murray, Pam Golding area principal, believes, “Gondwana Game
Reserve will provide the Garden Route with the one thing it lacks -
a sizeable and suitable Big Five game reserve that is accessible yet
secluded.”
